As hard as it may be to admit you are noticing signs of hearing loss, it is nothing to be ashamed of. Local ENT specialists are available to perform thorough examinations and hearing tests to properly diagnose hearing loss. The great news will soon follow because hearing aids can dramatically improve hearing.

Signs of hearing loss:

For those that are over fifty years old or older, hearing loss may be slowly creeping into your daily life. Some elderly patients are too embarrassed or gradually get used to the lack of hearing capabilities. They may ask “what” or claim others are just mumbling.

Those are two very common signs of hearing loss. For people finding themselves thinking those two thoughts a couple times a week, it is time for a simple visit to your local ENT office. There is absolutely no painful part in the process.

Additionally, if you often feel as if people are not pronouncing words right or articulating correctly, it may actually be your own hearing. More signs of hearing loss are as follows:

  • telephone calls seem to be difficult because you cannot read their lips
  • often ask for others to repeat themselves
  • you do not hear faucets dripping or other soft household sounds
  • it’s hard to hear when someone speaking is looking the other direction
  • people tell me I speak too loudly
  • others think the television’s volume level is too loud
  • you struggle to hear others speaking in crowded, loud places

Basically, there are three types of hearing loss which a doctor will examine the patient for. First, there is Conductive Hearing Loss. Next up, the doctor will examine a patient for signs of Sensorineural Hearing Loss. If the doctor did not decide it was one of those two possibilities, the patient either has Mixed Hearing Loss or Auditory Neuropathy Spectrum Disorder.
