A bacterial sinus infection occurs when bacteria forms and multiplies in the nasal canal. If mucus is prevented from draining, due to nasal cysts or polyps, an infection can start in the sinuses.

Symptoms Include:

If you have yellowish or green thick nasal discharge
Severe facial pressure or sinus headache
A fever over 100.5 °F


Bacterial sinus infections are not contagious, they typically don’t get better on their own and will need antibiotics. If you are experiencing chronic infections, it may be necessary to remove the blockage surgically can allow mucous to properly drain.
