So many Orlando residents suffer with sinus problems. Our sinuses are those hollow spaces in  the lower forehead, behind the cheekbones, under the eyes and around the nose. Small narrow tubes connect them all to the nose. In the perfect world, mucus drains effortlessly and air flows in and out with ease.

Pollen, allergies, bacteria, deviated septum, nasal polyps, enlarged turbinates, and even stress can cause you sinuses to become irritated, swollen, and unable to properly drain. This can cause an infection called sinusitis or rhinosinusitis.

Acute sinusitis is when the infection last for a few weeks, and if it doesn’t get better it could turn into chronic sinusitis.

While there are four common causes of sinus issues, it is important you have an ENT accurately pinpoint the problem.

Allergic Reaction

A very common nuisance here in Central Florida is allergens, from pet dander and pollen, to mold and ragweed. Pinpointing which one is the source of your sinus pain, pressure, headache and congestion, is the first step to relief.

Nasal Polyps

Nasal polyps can cause a host of issues, facial pain, difficulty breathing, congestion, even sleep apnea. While rarely cancerous, an ENT should diagnose them and custom a treatment plan tailored to you.

A Deviated Septum

The septum is a piece of cartilage and bone that separates your nostrils. It can cause several problems if it becomes torn or misshaped. Disrupting the air flow, congestion, infection, facial pain, and headaches. Usually there is an easy solution to repair the septum and get relief.

Enlarged Turbinates

Turbinates are small, thin structures inside your nose, attached to the tissue and covered with mucus. Not only do they warm the oxygen we breathe, they also filter allergens. They can become enlarged during an allergy flare up, blocking the sinuses and causing congestion.
