Acute sinusitis often starts out as a viral infection, such as from a common cold. In some cases, they will resolve themselves in just a couple of weeks, unless it develops into a bacterial infection.

When your sinuses, the spaces behind your nose and cheeks, become swollen and inflamed, it becomes acute sinusitis. This causes mucus to build up and interferes with drainage.

This is what causes all that pain, pressure around the eyes and checks, swelling, and tenderness. Other systems include: uncomfortable drainage down the back of the throat, pressure in the ears, fatigue, headaches, cough, and even a fever.

Over the counter medicine can provide some relief, but if the symptoms persist for over a week, or worse after seeing some improvement, a change in vision, a stiff neck, or a persistent fever, it’s time to make an appointment with Orlando ENT.

Those at hightest risk for acute sinusitis include those with certain medical conditions, nasal passage abnormality, immune system disorders, allergic conditions, exposure to pollution and smoke cigarettes.

, is another name for chronic sinusitis, typically caused from the lining of the sinuses swelling, growth of nasal polyps in the nasal cavity, and an infection.

Relief Of All Your Symptoms

If you’re anything like me, I’ve tried just about every over the counter medication to try and get relief from my sinus headaches, antihistamines or decongestants, but the symptoms keep coming back.  That’s when I found out there are more permanent solutions.

A highly effective way to get relief from sinusitis is with Balloon Sinuplasty, a minimally invasive endoscopic procedure during which a thin balloon catheter is inserted into the nose. The balloon is gradually inflated to relieve blockages and widen the sinus pathways. The goal of a balloon sinuplasty is to enlarge the opening of the sinuses, reduce blockages and improve sinus drainage.

Getting relief for me started when I visited Orlando Ear, Nose & Throat. With an exam, diagnosis, and treatment, I am breathing easy and pain free!  Katherine
