Acute sinusitis clears up on its own or responds to medication, while chronic sinusitis tends to recur and is more difficult to treat. What Can I Expect?

Your balloon sinuplasty will take place in your ENT physician’s office. You will be seated in a comfortable reclining chair. The first step will be to administer your IV sedation and topical anesthetics. Next, we will insert a small catheter into your nostril, using it to guide the tiny balloon to the blocked areas of your sinuses. Once it is in place, we will inflate the balloon for a few seconds. You will feel a bit of pressure. When the sinus has been unblocked, the area will be flushed with saline and the instruments will be removed.

How Much Time Will I Need To Take Off From Work?

Most people can return to work the day after the procedure. Your doctor will instruct you not to blow your nose for the first 24 hours. You will probably experience some congestion for the first few days and sleeping with your head elevated is usually helpful. You should be able to resume most of your regular activities after 1-2 days. You may start to notice improvements right after your procedure, such as being able to breathe more easily. As the initial congestion clears away, you will notice other improvements, such as better sleep.
